As a medical practice, it’s important to ensure that your online content is valuable and relevant. This is because Google is constantly checking the quality of the content on your site and comparing it to your competitors.
In order to accomplish this, they employ seven factors to ensure that only high quality content is found online. Here are four factors that play into Google’s quality check.
1. Ad Placement
While ads themselves will not affect your ranking with Google, using them poorly will. When placing ads, make sure that your viewers have a clear understanding of where your content stops and the advertisements begin. Your ads should not impact how your viewer sees the content on your page.
2. E-A-T
E-A-T stands for Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness. Google expects that your content should have a high level of each. How can you ensure your practice’s website adheres to this rule? Make sure that any information you post comes from a reliable source. Google requires expert sources for websites dedicated to financial and medical advice.
3. Content Length
Along with quality, the content on your website should be long enough to provide adequate information without becoming too drawn out. The problem, however, is that there’s no clear-cut determination of what the appropriate length is. Google simply states that the content you provide is dependent on the purpose of the page and the topic on which you’re trying to report.
4. Page Layout
Presenting your content in a thoughtful way is also important. There will always be poorly designed websites on the internet; however, websites with the highest quality are those that are thoughtfully designed. Google has two main rules about design:
- Make sure there are not too many ads placed above the fold.
- Don’t make your visitors scroll down the page to find the main content.
